Homogeneous Vinyl Sheet Flooring Malaysia
The standard specification for Malaysian hospitals, clean rooms, laboratories, pharmacies and high-spec education. Single-layer compact vinyl where the colour and pattern run through the full thickness, sandable, refurbishable, and PUR-finished on premium ranges for permanent stain resistance.
Definition
Homogeneous vinyl is a single-layer compact vinyl floor covering where colour and pattern run through the full thickness. There is no separate wear layer because the entire material IS the wear layer. Typically 2.0–3.0 mm total thickness.
How it’s made
Manufactured by calendering vinyl compound between heated rollers to form sheets, then bonded and pressure-cured into homogeneous slabs. Premium ranges receive a factory polyurethane (PUR) surface treatment that eliminates the need for site polishing and reduces lifecycle maintenance cost by approximately 40%.

Where this product is used
Hospital
The clinical-zone default, welded seams, coved skirting, sandable surface.
Operating theatre
ESD homogeneous variants for anaesthetic-safe surgical environments.
Clean room
ISO 14644-compliant, particle-shedding-free, chemical-resistant.
Pharmacy & lab
Chemical resistance, hygienic detailing, ESD where required.
School
Heavy commercial classification, low VOC, durable through 15-year cycle.
Advantages
- Sandable wear surface, floor can be machine-buffed, stripped and re-finished through its lifecycle (3–5 refurbishment cycles over 15–20 years)
- Permanent stain resistance, pigment runs through full thickness; surface damage does not expose a different colour underneath
- PUR factory finish on premium ranges eliminates polishing and reduces lifecycle maintenance cost ~40%
- Weld-compatible, every homogeneous range supports heat-welded seams with colour-matched cord
- Bacteriostatic and anti-fungal options on multiple premium ranges
- Heavy commercial classification (EN 685 Class 34) standard
Honest trade-offs
- Higher initial cost than heterogeneous (RM 22–45/sqft material vs RM 12–25/sqft)
- Fewer aesthetic options than heterogeneous (no photo-printed wood/stone decor; solid + speckled only)
- Requires skilled installer for welding and coving, specify CIDB-registered contractor with relevant SCORE rating

Installation overview
Self-levelled substrate to SR1 flatness (3 mm under 2 m straightedge). Moisture ≤ 75% RH per ISO probe. Manufacturer-approved adhesive system. Heat-welded seams with colour-matched cord. Cove formed skirting at minimum 100 mm rise in clinical zones.
Maintenance overview
Daily damp mop with neutral pH cleaner OR hospital-grade disinfectant per infection control protocol. Weekly auto-scrubber in corridors. Annual buff with diamond pad (PUR-finished homogeneous). Compatible with sodium hypochlorite at 1:10 dilution.

Frequently asked questions
- Homogeneous vinyl is a single-layer compact vinyl flooring where the colour and pattern run through the full thickness of the material. Unlike heterogeneous vinyl (which has a separate transparent wear layer), homogeneous vinyl is uniform top-to-bottom. The full thickness is the wear surface.
- Three reasons: (1) heat-welded seams + coved skirting create a near-monolithic surface that supports infection control; (2) the full-thickness wear means the floor can be sanded and re-polished through its lifecycle (3-5 refurbishment cycles over 15-20 years); (3) it tolerates strong hospital disinfectants better than printed decor systems.
- Factory PUR (polyurethane) surface treatment eliminates the need for site polishing. The floor is maintained by damp mopping and periodic auto-scrubbing only, no stripping or sealing required. Lifecycle maintenance cost is approximately 40% lower than non-PUR vinyl.
- Standard is 2.0 mm homogeneous for general clinical areas; 2.5–3.0 mm for heavy-traffic public corridors. Premium specifications use 2.0 mm with PUR.
